MUSIC on the GREEN  is based at Christ Church Esher directly opposite and overlooking Esher Green.  Its aims are to promote a wide variety of excellent music, to present music in a fresh and engaging way, and to encourage audiences from Esher and beyond.
Our concerts take place in Christ Church at the heart of Esher - a church which boasts an outstanding pipe organ, fine grand piano acquired in 2012 with a very generous loan, and good acoustics which all contribute to making our music so enjoyable.
MUSIC on the GREEN  is about making music which is accessible to, and enjoyable by, as many people as possible without it being stuffy or cheapened.  This is the reason for the MUSIC on the GREEN ‘brand’ – to give the music an identity of its own.
Music is about people, emotions, history…  We blend all these ingredients and seek to present our music in interesting and rewarding ways, within its own context so that it can be widely appreciated and enjoyed.
Highlights of the 2012 programme have included a highly successful St David's Day concert of Wesh music and readings; a series of reflective organ recitals through the Lent season played by Christ Church's team of able organists; Baroque in the Tower in Holy Week featuring a programme of 17th and 18th century music on recorder, guitar and theorbo; our regular lunchtime recitals by young musicians of outstanding talent ranging from the choir and instrumentalists of Tormead School, Guildford to a quartet playing jazz to an Indian raga.  In November we held a delightful evening of piano music including Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue to raise funds for our Grand Piano Appeal.
In 2013 we will continue our regular lunchtime concerts on the third Wednesday of the month during school term time.  We are holding another of our very popular Come and Sing Days on 9 March and will present Baroque in the Tower in Holy Week set in the wonderful acoustic and intimate setting of an upstairs room in the Christ Church tower.  Several other events are at the early planning stage ands may well include a further Silent Film Night and events designed to attract the whole family.
Check out our Programme and come along – you'll be asured of a very warm welcome, and we're sure you'll enjoy yourself.
